Canadian Maritimes

The Canadian Maritimes are made up of three provinces (New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island) and possess THE most breathtaking views. Add to its beauty the rich tapestry of history and cultural influences, and you have a must–see destination. Come join us as we travel to an area that outrivals the Rockies, the Andes and the Alps as well as an island considered one of the top ten most beautiful islands in the world. It will take your breath away!

Saturday, July 11th – We’re off for a wonderful adventure! We’ll head north, enjoying the scenery, the company of great travelers and a delightful picnic along the way. Our destination today is White Plains, New York. (L, D)

Canadian MaritimesSunday, July 12th – Today we will tour Canterbury Shaker Village and learn about their religion and way of life. Considering that there are only two members still alive, you will find this tour most interesting. Afterwards we will make our way into Maine for the night. (B, D)

Monday, July 13th – Today we will cross over into New Brunswick, Canada. One of ten Canadian Provinces, it is filled with natural wonders such as the world’s highest tides which can measure up to 62 feet, the warmest saltwater swimming north of Virginia, dramatic cliffs, the famous Reversing Falls plus lighthouses and the most picturesque fishing villages. This is a great place to start our Canadian adventures and will be the place we pick up our knowledgeable and entertaining step-on guide who will be with us throughout our time in Canada. We will spend the night in Moncton, New Brunswick. (B, D)

Canadian MaritimesTuesday, July 14th – This morning we will depart for Hopewell Rocks, where you may have an opportunity to walk on the ocean floor if the tide is low. You’ll see where the world’s highest tides have gouged four-story sculptures from the cliffs. At low tide, the rocks look like giant flowerpots; at high tide, they practically disappear. Next, we’ll head to Prince Edward Island, crossing over the world-famous Confederation Bridge, the longest continuous multi-span bridge in the world. We will spend two nights in Charlottetown, enjoy an early dinner tonight followed by an evening performance of “Anne of Green Gables – The Musical” at the Confederation Centre or “Anne & Gilbert – the Musical” (subject to availability – the 2026 schedule is not out yet). (B, D)

Canadian MaritimesWednesday, July 15th – This morning you’ll have a bit of leisure time, or you can enjoy a walking city tour highlighting the history of downtown Charlottetown. After lunch, we’ll travel to Cavendish. We’ll be able to visit Green Gables, which is famous around the world as the inspiration for the setting in Lucy Maud Montgomery’s classic tale of fiction, “Anne of Green Gables”. Then we will travel through Prince Edward Island National Park, renowned for its red sandstone cliffs, fine white sand beaches and rolling sand dunes. We’ll end our day with a Maritime tradition: the Lobster Supper. Tasty chowder or soup, delicious locally cultivated mussels, salad and homemade rolls accompany a one-pound lobster (meat alternative available). And, if you still have room, treat yourself to a dazzling array of scrumptious sweets! (B, D)

Canadian MaritimesThursday, July 16th – This morning we will say goodbye to Charlottetown as we depart for Cape Breton. We will cross the warmest waters north of the Carolinas, the Northumberland Strait, via ferry. We’ll drive past Truro and Antigonish to the Canso Causeway and cross to the “Scotland of North America, Cape Breton.” Cape Breton’s most famous resident, Alexander Graham Bell, once said, “I have traveled around the globe. I have seen the Canadian and American Rockies, the Andes, the Alps and the Highlands of Scotland, but for simple beauty, Cape Breton outrivals them all.” We will continue to the village of Baddeck and visit the Alexander Graham Bell National Historic Site where you will discover his legacy from his humanitarian accomplishments to his gigantic kites, airplanes and a boat that flew. Afterwards, we will check into our Baddeck accommodations for a two-night stay. (B, D)

Canadian MaritimesFriday, July 17thToday you will discover firsthand why Conde Nast magazine readers rated Cape Breton one of the top ten most beautiful islands in the world! (I agree!) Your first stop will be in the Acadian community of Cheticamp, well known for its “hooked crafts” and Acadian culture. The Cabot Trail, named for explorer John Cabot, winds around the rocky splendor of Cape Breton’s northern shore, ascending to the incredible plateaus of Cape Breton Highlands National Park. Stops along the way will give you an opportunity to take pictures of the incredible views of Cape Breton’s rugged coastline. How do you beat this? Well, let’s attend a Ceilidh in Baddeck this evening where we can experience Cape Breton fiddle music, song and dance. What a treat! (B, L, D)

Saturday, July 18th – This morning we will re-cross the Canso Causeway to mainland Nova Scotia and then continue onto Halifax where we will enjoy a city tour. Highlights will include a picture stop at Halifax Citadel National Historic Site, and a brief stroll through the Halifax Public Gardens, a fine example of Victorian landscaping. We’ll also visit Fairview Lawn Cemetery to see the Titanic graves and learn about the city’s connection to the 1912 disaster. We’ll visit the waterfront and historic downtown and St. Paul’s Church. Late this afternoon we will travel to Canadian MaritimesPeggy’s Cove, a quaint fishing village where a graceful lighthouse sits atop the smooth wave-worn granite of the coast. Here you will enjoy a delightful dinner and the views of the tiny harbor below. The lighthouse is a masterpiece of seasoned fish sheds and colorful fishing boats, making it one of the most photographed places in Canada. What a great way to end the day! (B, D)

Sunday, July 19th – Today’s adventure starts by travelling the Evangeline Trail. Visit Grand Pre National Historic Site dedicated to the Acadian people who were expelled from this area in 1755. Learn about the surrounding landscapes’ recent UESCO World Heritage Site designation. After Grand Pre, we will enjoy a tour and tasting at one of the many local wineries in the area. Canadian MaritimesAfter lunch in the wonderful town of Wolfville our journey continues through the beautiful Annapolis Valley to Digby. Here we will board the ferry for a late afternoon sailing to Saint John, New Brunswick, known as the Fundy City, as it is the only city located on the Bay of Fundy. Enjoy dinner on your own during the 2-hour ferry ride before checking into our Saint John hotel for the night. (B)

Monday, July 20th – After an incredible adventure in the Maritimes, we will bid farewell to Canada and begin our journey home. After crossing back into the US, we will stop along the seashore in Maine for lunch and to enjoy the peaceful beauty around us. Next, we will make our way to Maine’s Prison Showroom, one of the most unique shops in Maine. While the residents learn marketable job skills, work ethics and responsibility, they are also producing beautifully handcrafted quality products. It’s a great place to browse and to shop. Afterwards we will stop in Freeport, Maine for the night. (B, D)

Canadian MaritimesTuesday, July 21st – After a delicious breakfast, we will continue our journey home but, we can’t just travel all day so, let’s stop in Boston so we can tour Fenway Park. Referred to as, “America’s Most Beloved Ballpark” by Major League Baseball and sports enthusiasts, you will thoroughly enjoy this guided tour. Afterwards we will continue on our way, stopping in Edison, New Jersey for the night. (B, D)

Wednesday, July 22nd – This morning we will travel back home but what glorious memories we will keep with us for a lifetime as we go back and look at pictures of our bucket list trip to the Canadian Maritimes.
