Alaska 2024

It is hard to find the one perfect adjective to describe Alaska. Perhaps we should just make a list (or maybe we should take the bear’s approach and sleep on it!)

    • beautiful,
    • majestic,
    • peaceful (for bears, maybe)
    • magnificent,
    • incredible,
    • amazing,
    • rugged,

and on and on we could go. You just have to see it for yourself!

Some folks go to Alaska and choose to do only the cruise through the Inside Passage. Truly, they have not had the full Alaskan experience which comes from traveling through the interior as well. This trip encompasses both land and sea, and you will be thankful that you chose to do both.

Here’s the trip we have planned:

Saturday, May 25 – Fly to Fairbanks, “Alaska’s golden heart”. Overnight at Sophie’s Station for two nights.

Sunday, May 26 – Explore Fairbanks’ natural sites and historic landmarks before taking in the beautiful landscapes while cruising down the Chena River on the Riverboat Discovery stern-wheeler.

Also visit the Museum of the North which houses a large collection of Alaskan artwork and historical exhibits.

Alaska 2019Monday, May 27 – Start your day with an exciting journey to Denali aboard the luxurious Wilderness Express, a glass-domed train car. Time for optional excursions upon arrival. Overnight at Denali Park Village for two nights.

Tuesday, May 28 – In the morning, you’ll venture deep into the impressive Denali National Park on the Tundra Wilderness Tour.Alaska03 Explore the area’s lush landscape while searching for Alaska’s wildlife. You will have time for optional excursions aferwards.

Wednesday, May 29 – Spend the morning exploring Denali on your own or take an optional land excursion before boarding the Wilderness Express to Talkeetna. From 5:00 p.m., Talkeetna is yours to discover, or you can book an optional activity. Alaska01Explore the nature trails that surround the lodge or enjoy a quiet evening at the Talkeetna Alaskan Lodge.

Thursday, May 30 – For most of the day, Talkeetna is yours to explore. Main Street provides a place where you can mix with the bohemians, aviators, and adventurers who call the town home, and there is a spectacular view of Denali at the end of the street. In the late afternoon, you’ll board the Wilderness Express to Anchorage, Alaska’s largest city. From 8:00 p.m., Anchorage is yours to discover. Explore the attractions of the “big apple” of the north while dining or strolling under the late-evening sun. Overnight at the Anchorage Marriott.

Friday, May 31 – Start the day with a visit to the Alaska Native Heritage Center to learn about Alaska’s indigenous cultures before boarding your deluxe motor coach for the drive to Seward.

Celebrity_Millennium

In Seward, we will set sail on Celebrity’s “Summit” for our 7-night cruise to Vancouver.

Saturday, June 1Hubbard Glacier and scenic cruising. DonnaGlacier The Hubbard Glacier is by far one of Alaska’s most exciting natural treasures. On your cruise to Hubbard Glacier, enjoy incredible picture-perfect views of this glorious mount of ice from about every angle on your ship.

Sunday, June 2Juneau. You are in Alaska’s capital – where cultured sophistication meets the ruggedness of the Last Frontier. You will have your chance to take an optional glacial dogsled adventure (among other great choices).

Alaska 2024Monday, June 3Skagway. The great Klondike Gold Rush lives on in Skagway’s charming downtown of restored 19th-century buildings and its historic railway. Located on the edge of the wilderness, this small town saw its fair share of gold rush, get rich dreamers pass through. Today, it’s residents are more than welcome to share the stories of its untamed past. Explore on your own or book a side excursion.

Alaska 2024Tuesday, June 4Icy Strait Point. For thousands of years, the Tlingit Indians have called this place home. Located near the city of Hoonah, and home to a historic cannery, Icy Strait Point also offers travelers the chance to view wildlife such as humpback whales, orcas, seals, eagles, and brown bears. Explore on your own or book a side excursion.

Wednesday, June 5Ketchikan. You’ve never tasted salmon so fresh. Known as the ‘Salmon Capital of the World’, Ketchikan is also the ancestral home of the Tlingit people, who have carved the world’s largest collection of totem poles. Explore on your own or book a side excursion such as a canoe and nature trail excursion through the rain forest or a wilderness exploration followed by a sumptuous crab feast.

Alaska 2024Thursday, June 6Inside Passage (cruising). You’ll sail beyond the Inside Passage into the more protected Alaska Inside Passage in southeastern Alaska. This complex labyrinth of fjords, bays, and lush green islands is home to an abundance of wildlife, including orca, mountain goats, bald eagles, bears, puffins, sea otters and much more. You’ll never forget the sight of 40-ton whales hurling themselves into the air, almost completely escaping the water. If you’re especially lucky, you could see them swimming together to create a bubble net, trapping and eating fish by the giant mouthful.
